How to Research an Influencer Before a Brand Deal
Vet a creator before you pay them: check real engagement, posting consistency and growth — anonymously, without tipping them off.

Before you send a creator a paid brief, do your homework. Follower count alone means nothing — you want engagement, consistency and genuine growth. Here's how to check, without them knowing you're evaluating them.
What to look at
- Engagement rate — likes and comments relative to follower count on recent posts. Very low engagement on a big account is a red flag.
- Posting consistency — are they active, or did they go quiet for months?
- Comment quality — real conversation, or bot spam and emoji-only replies?
- Growth trajectory — steady climb, or a suspicious overnight spike?
Do it anonymously
You don't want a creator to see you snooping before a negotiation. Viewing their public profile anonymously means no follow, no notification, and no signal that a brand is circling.
Track changes over time
One snapshot isn't enough. Check back over a couple of weeks and compare: are followers and engagement climbing together (healthy) or diverging (bought followers)? ZocialViewer saves each view and shows you what changed since last time — follower delta, new posts and engagement shifts — so vetting takes minutes.
Decide with data
A creator with 50k engaged followers and steady growth often beats one with 500k and dead comments. Anonymous, repeated checks give you the real picture before money changes hands.
