You checked their profile three times this week. Now their videos are all over your For You page. Coincidence? No — the algorithm watched you watching them.
What TikTok learns from a visit
Every profile visit, video watch, rewatch and pause from a logged-in account is a signal. TikTok's recommendation engine treats your repeated visits as interest and starts serving you their content. That part only affects your feed — awkward, but private.
The part that can expose you
Recommendations flow both ways. TikTok suggests accounts based on shared signals — contacts, mutuals, interaction patterns. Heavy one-way attention can contribute to your account surfacing in their "Suggested accounts". There's no published formula, but plenty of people have been asked "why did TikTok suggest you to me?" by someone they were quietly watching.
Breaking the loop
The only way to look without feeding the algorithm is to look without your account. An anonymous viewer fetches the profile and videos with no login attached — your For You page stays clean, and there's no engagement pattern linking your account to theirs.
Curiosity is fine. Just don't let the algorithm narrate it.
