Is It Legal to View Public Social Media Profiles Anonymously?
Viewing public TikTok and Instagram profiles anonymously — where the legal and terms-of-service lines actually are.

Viewing public social media content anonymously is legal and normal. It's the same information anyone with a browser can see; not attaching your name to the visit doesn't change that.
What's fine
- Looking at public profiles, posts and videos without logging in
- Not appearing in someone's profile-view or story-viewer list
- Saving public information for personal reference
Where lines exist
Platforms' terms of service draw the line at private data and automation abuse: bypassing privacy settings, scraping at scale with bots, or harvesting personal data can violate ToS. Reputable viewers only touch public data and don't unlock private accounts.
Use it responsibly
Anonymous viewing is a privacy tool, not a surveillance one. Respect private accounts, don't harass anyone, and you're well within normal, legal use.
